New OSHA Recordkeeping Requirements Now Active | 300A Summary Deadline Extended to Dec. 15

The first deadline for electronic submission of injury and illness records to OSHA has now been extended from December 1 to December 15. Reporting requirements will vary depending on business size and type of operation.

Reporting requirements based on employee count: 

*Only certain industries within the 20 – 249 employee range are required to submit the 300A Form.

OSHA Form Definitions:

300 Form: Log of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses
300A Form: Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses
301 Form: Injury and Illness Incident Report

OSHA Form Deadlines:

January 1, 2017 – The electronic submission requirement became effective and will be phased in over a two year period.

December 1, 2017 – Deadline for all establishments subject to the electronic reporting requirement to submit their completed 2016 Form 300A.

July 1, 2018 – Deadline for all establishments subject to the electronic reporting requirement with 250 or more employees to submit their completed 2017 Forms 300A, 300, and 301. Establishments with 20 – 249 employees must submit their completed 2017 Form 300A as well.

Beginning in 2019 and each year thereafter, establishments subject to the electronic reporting requirement must submit their information by March 2.

Electronic Submission Options:

OSHA will provide a secure website that offers three options for data submission:

  1. Users will be able to manually enter data into a web-based form.
  2. Users will be able to upload a CSV file to process single or multiple establishments at the same time.
  3. Users of automated recordkeeping systems will have the ability to transmit data electronically via an API (application programming interface).
